Abhinay Sinha (trade name Bridgefire Ventures, “we”) handles personal information in the JapanSetu job-listing service (“the Service”) in line with Japan’s Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI), the Employment Security Act and related guidelines, as follows.
1. Business handling personal information
Name: Abhinay Sinha
Address: Disclosed without delay upon request
Person responsible for personal information: Abhinay Sinha
Contact: contact@japansetu.com
2. What we collect
- Employer contacts posting a job: company name, contact name, work email, and the job details.
- Payments: payments happen on Stripe’s checkout page; card numbers are never sent to us. We receive the payment result (amount, time, contact email etc.) from Stripe.
- Newsletter subscribers (once launched): email address only.
- Enquiries: your email, name if given, and your message.
- Access data: IP address, browser type and pages viewed, in server logs for operations and security.
We do not take applications and never collect CVs or résumés. You apply on each employer’s own page, and the employer handles that data under its own policy. We never collect sensitive or discrimination-prone information such as race, ethnicity, social status, family origin, registered domicile, birthplace, beliefs, religion or union membership.
3. Purposes of use
- Receiving job posting orders, reviewing listings, and contacting you about publishing, updating or ending them
- Billing, confirming payments and handling refunds
- Sending the weekly job digest newsletter (every subscriber receives the same email)
- Answering enquiries and complaints
- Preventing misuse and running and improving the Service securely (including statistics that do not identify individuals)
Under Article 5-5 of the Employment Security Act, we collect, store and use job seekers’ personal information only as needed for these purposes. We will ask for your consent before any other use.
4. Provision to third parties
We do not give personal data to third parties without your prior consent, except where the law requires or permits it.
5. Service providers and transfers outside Japan
We use the following service providers. All are based in the United States, so your data is handled outside Japan.
| Provider (country) | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Stripe, Inc. (USA; contracting entity in Japan: Stripe Japan KK) | Card payment processing |
| Kit (ConvertKit LLC, USA) | Storing newsletter sign-ups and sending the newsletter |
| Cloudflare, Inc. (USA) | Website delivery, form handling and email forwarding |
| Google LLC (USA) | Receiving and storing enquiry emails (Gmail) |
- US privacy regime: the US has no single comprehensive federal privacy law; sector-specific federal laws and state laws (such as the California Consumer Privacy Act) apply. See the Personal Information Protection Commission’s information on foreign privacy systems (in Japanese).
- Measures taken by these providers: under their terms and data processing agreements, each provider uses personal data only to provide its service to us and applies security measures such as encryption, access control and staff supervision. We checked these measures before using them.
When you sign up for the newsletter, we show you this information and ask for your consent to the transfer outside Japan.
6. Security measures
- Organisational: only the owner handles personal data, and handling is reviewed regularly.
- Personnel: we follow written rules for handling personal data.
- Physical: devices used are protected against theft and loss and are screen-locked.
- Technical: two-factor authentication on every service, encrypted connections (HTTPS) and least-privilege access.
- Foreign environment: data is stored on the US providers’ servers listed in section 5; we take measures with the US regime in mind.
- Retention: we delete personal data once its purpose is fulfilled (newsletter data when you unsubscribe; posting records after any legally required retention period).
7. Cookies
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. Any analytics we use are cookieless and do not identify individuals.
8. Disclosure, correction and deletion requests
To ask for the purposes of use, disclosure, correction, addition, deletion, suspension of use, erasure, stopping provision to third parties, or disclosure of third-party provision records, email contact@japansetu.com. We will verify your identity and respond without delay. There is no fee, and you will not be treated unfavourably for making a request.
9. Complaints and contact
Send complaints or questions about personal data to contact@japansetu.com (Email support: weekdays 10:00–18:00 JST (excluding weekends, Japanese public holidays and New Year). We reply within 2 business days.).
10. Changes
If we change this policy, we will post the changes and the date on this page.
