Assumptions and limits

Converting to rupees

We used the Reserve Bank of India’s JPY/INR reference rate of ₹60.42 per ¥100 for 29 October 2026, administered by FBIL (RBI reference rate archive, FBIL). Exchange rates move every day, so recalculate with a current rate; banks and remittance services also charge a margin when you send money home.

Pension if you leave Japan

Foreign nationals who paid into Japan’s pension system and then leave Japan can, under conditions, claim a Lump-sum Withdrawal Payment. You must claim within two years of no longer having an address in Japan (Japan Pension Service).
